The Lodge Jamberoo
The Lodge sits in the hills of Jamberoo, about 90 minutes from Sydney, 30 minutes from Wollongong, and a short drive inland from Kiama, set inside a temperate rainforest with a river running through the property. It's a full resort rather than a single hall, 41 rooms on site, so like a lot of the venues in this part of NSW, a wedding here tends to naturally stretch into a weekend rather than a single day.
The Tree Cathedral
This is the standout ceremony space, and it's earned that reputation honestly. Mature pine trees form a natural canopy overhead, with the sound of the river running just behind the space. It's one of the few ceremony spots I've worked at where the location itself is doing most of the heavy lifting before I've even picked up the camera. It's an open-air natural space rather than a structure, so it's worth asking your coordinator early about the wet-weather plan specifically for this spot, since a rainforest venue and rain aren't exactly strangers to each other.
The Wedding Hall
White walls, high ceilings and timber floors give you a genuine blank canvas for the reception, minimal styling reads clean and simple here, and it also holds up well if you want to go heavier with florals, draping or candlelight. It's a space that adapts to what you bring into it rather than dictating a particular look.
The rest of the resort
Beyond the ceremony and reception, there's a pool, sauna, jacuzzi, a bar with an open fireplace, an on-site restaurant, and a games room. None of this is essential to the wedding itself, but it's the difference between guests who scatter after the reception and guests who are still around the next morning for a proper goodbye, or for photos that wouldn't otherwise happen.
The River Room
This is the bridal prep space, and it's a genuinely good one for photography specifically: it gets real natural light, along with garden and river views, which matters more than people expect for getting-ready photos. Prep shots taken under flat artificial light rarely look as good as the same moment shot near a window, and this room's set up for exactly that.
What this means for your day
Because it's spread across a full property rather than one building, build a bit more travel time into your timeline between the Tree Cathedral, the Wedding Hall and the River Room than you would at a single-room venue. The trade-off is worth it: you get a proper change of scenery across the day instead of every photo coming from the same room.
