Nicola and Damien were married in a Filipino Catholic ceremony at St Matthew's, Windsor, the oldest Catholic church still in continual use in Australia, opened in 1840. It is Nicola's local church and one her family has long been part of, which gave the day a weight that had nothing to do with the building's history and everything to do with what it meant to her.

The ceremony carried a lot of tradition through it, the kind of service where every element means something. A white veil was placed over Nicola's head and Damien's shoulder by their sponsors, a symbol of being clothed together in grace and protection. A cord was wrapped around them in a figure eight, representing a bond meant to last. Thirteen blessed coins were presented as a wish for shared prosperity, and two individual candles were lit together to light one central flame, two lives joining as one. The same priest who had married Nicola's siblings led the service too, which added a layer to the day that a lot of guests clearly picked up on.

There was a steadiness running through the whole service. Considered, personal, tied to something bigger than just the two of them standing up the front.

Right after their first kiss, before the applause even started, there was a brief pause where Damien held Nicola's face and they just smiled at each other in that in-between second. Nobody directed it and nobody was performing for anyone. Just relief and joy. It ended up being their favourite photo from the day.

The reception at The Glasshouse, the function room at The Fiddler in Rouse Hill, matched that same balance of intention and celebration, glass walls, greenery and warm lighting made for a space that felt polished without losing any warmth.

As the evening went on and the nerves wore off, Nicola and Damien settled fully into themselves. Comfortable, connected, genuinely present with the people around them.

Their wedding leaned into family and tradition over anything showy, and what came through most in the photos was simply the life they are building together.
